Our History

The Northwestern Ontario Indigenous Youth Achievement and Recognition Awards was formally known as The Niigaantige Career Fair. It began in 1987 when a need was identified to address the high attrition rates among Indigenous students studying at the secondary and post secondary levels.

With each passing year, the Awards Ceremony has gained more and more recognition while providing hope for our Indigenous youth.

Our Committee

The IYARA Committee is comprised of all volunteers and community members who represent organizations in Northwestern Ontario. We are committed to encourage and reward Indigenous youth who focus on innovative ways of learning about and planning for their future.

Since 1997, we have acknowledged and honoured hundreds of youth from across Northwestern Ontario. The event has grown significantly with the continued support from our community and region.
Chi-Meegwetch to everyone who has participated over the years.
